Waste management for households and companies in Southwest Finland is already well organised, but the goals for the future are still high. The companies in Turku’s Topinpuisto circular economy network are working with research institutes to develop value chains for materials that end up as waste.
“Topinpuisto is a place to find partners, develop ideas with industry professionals or find users for new solutions and ideas,” says Circular Economy Specialist Sini Ilmonen from Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto.
In the future, Topinpuisto will also increasingly serve as a showcase and training centre for circular economy solutions and models in the region. Topinpuisto is currently being developed as part of the CircHubs project.
Mayor of Turku Minna Arve also encourages development of the circular economy through cooperation. In her latest blog, Arve explains that, according to its city strategy, Turku wants to accelerate the development of a material circular economy and implement resource-wise principles: zero waste, zero emissions and sustainable use of natural resources.
